Campbell Catholic
Medical Association

We’re medical students at Campbell University who want our faith to shape the kind of physicians we become. We go to Mass together, spend time with Catholic physicians and faculty, and share a lot of meals. You don’t need to be Catholic to come.

In the legend, the twin physicians replace the deacon’s diseased leg while he sleeps. They were remembered for treating the sick without asking payment.

Our mission, shared with the Catholic Medical Association

Inspiring physicians to imitate Jesus Christ.

This is the mission of the Catholic Medical Association, founded in 1932. As its student chapter at Campbell, we take it as our own while we train.

¶ Our patron

Saint Luke, physician

Luke was a Greek physician, the author of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles, and a companion of Saint Paul. The Church honors him as the patron saint of physicians.

His feast falls on October 18. Each year around it we drive to Raleigh for the White Mass, where everyone who works in healthcare receives a blessing.

Detail: Saint Luke, in a red robe and cap, looks up from his silverpoint drawing.
DETAIL OF FIG. 2Luke studies the Virgin before he draws. His face is often read as a self-portrait of the painter.
